Where would Harry Potter be if he hadn't found the
wizard and headmaster of Hogwarts, Albus Dumbledore?
Sure, he'd still be Harry with all the magical powers
he inherently possessed, but what might have been left
unborn in him?
My thoughts, exactly.
The world might never have known him.
And that's how I feel about my own wizard, too,
who I sing about in the song, 'Remember,' on
my newest album, "Reflection":
"I asked the wizard to share his idea
He told me the future is already real
You close your eyes and look inside
What you want is before your eyes..."
The wizard I'm talking about is my very good friend
and music producer, Daniel Barrett, who also happens
to be my co-author on our just released book,
"The Remembering Process: A Surprising (and Fun)

Now, like Harry Potter, I have my own magical powers
and, trust me, you do, too.
In fact, I've used many of them to lift myself out
of homelessness and poverty to get to where I am today.
But, also like Harry, certain people who come into our
lives are there to help us go further - to shatter even
more personal records.
That's how it's been with Daniel, and I know the
feeling's mutual. We've both helped each other break
into new areas.
I helped him become an author and he helped me become
a musician.
Pretty fair deal, huh?
One of the parts I've loved best is the "wizarding"
technique Daniel taught me: The Remembering Process.

It's really been the thing that allowed me to jump more
fully into this new life as a musician because, frankly,
I was scared - as you can see in this excerpt from the book:
"When it came time for me to go into the Rubicon
recording studio and sing, play guitar, and record
my own songs, I was nervous. I was excited, too.
But I knew I was about to record with some legends
in music, such as the other Joe Vitale who had
recorded with Neil Young. And now he was going to
record with first-timer me.
"I expressed my concerns with Daniel. We instantly
went to the future and started speaking as if the
recording was over.
"I remember that the sessions went so smooth that we
were surprised," Daniel said. "Your playing and singing
was in perfect harmony. The group came together as if
we had played those songs for years. I think I remember
that we did all the recording in one day, not the
scheduled two."
And I wasn't just scared in the beginning, either.
Every time we set a new goal for another album (I just
recorded my 7th), every time I picked up a new instrument
(I just picked up the saxophone), every time I sang a
new song - those old fears and doubts would creep up again.
After all, every time you exceed your comfort zone,
you "stir up" any beliefs of lack, etc.
And every time, we worked it out the same way.
We remembered.
And we succeeded.
When it comes to creating, "remembering" is, well,
just easier.
And, like Daniel says, "'I remember how well it went,'
is much more inspiring."
See what I mean?
Harry Potter doesn't have anything on me these days.
